DESCRIPTION: Our WWII Weekend is entering its seventh year. The WWII weekend consists of American, German, Polish, British, Chinese and Italian encampments with over 200 re-enactors, with reenactment battles. The WWII veterans come out with their families and talk about their experience in the war, complete with their memorabilia. We have a Frank Sinatra impersonator and guest speakers. We have military vendors and military vehicles. The Department of Veterans Affairs comes to display benefit information. Our luminary bags that we put all around the property has a picture of a veteran on the front who has passed on and then we light the candle inside the bag in honor of the veteran in the evening. Our local dignitaries read their names after a brief speech on Sunday to honor them. We give a dinner to the WWII Veterans and their families and re-enactors Saturday night to show our appreciation for giving service to our country and the re-enactors for traveling and being a great part of this event. Also Saturday evening we have a 1940’s Swing Dance featuring The West Chester Swing Kings to end the day then we start all over the again for Sunday.
Sunday is a replica of Saturday but finishing out the day with honor guard saluting those who gave their lives during the war and who have passed on. We have the folding of the American Flag and we present it to a family who has not received the flag of their loved one so they can get closure and also present a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps. This is such a solemn event and at that time we are all proud to be an American.
Military Vendors only!
